Maaltaaba Secures 20 Acres of Farmland for Women Farmers in Nabdam District Through AVID-2 Project Support

So far, Maaltaaba has been able to engage traditional authorities through negotiation meetings to secure a total of 20 acres (approx.) of farmland for the women’s groups in Dasang-Sakote, Logri-Yarkin, and Nyoboko (all in the Nabdam district), courtesy of the STAR-Ghana Foundation’s AVID-2 project. Out of this total land size, 13.5 acres are dedicated for farming during the rainy season and the remaining 6.5 acres for dry season farming. With the collaboration of the Talensi and Nabdam District Assemblies, Maaltaaba will continue this drive to ensure most, if not all, of its members get access to fertile farmland to farm all-year-round as well as formalize land use agreements.
Many thanks to STAR-Ghana Foundation and all other stakeholders (including the Sakote-daan, Yamerig-daan, Tindaana of Logri-Yarkin, Chief of Nyoboko, Nabdam District Coordinating Council director and the planning unit, and community opinion leaders) for the tremendous roles played in this drive to secure group farmland for Maaltaaba women groups in their various communities in Nabdam district. This drive is to continue to other communities in Nabdam and Talensi districts.
